1980-1981 Topps Basketball Uncut Sheet Collection (8)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $720

Extremely attractive collection of eight uncut 132-card sheets from the 1980-1981 Topps Basketball set, each of which is highlighted by the three Team Leader cards of Hall of Famer Larry Bird in his first Topps issue. The set is also noted for the inclusion of Bird's rookie card (alongside Julius Erving and fellow Hall of Fame rookie Magic Johnson), a key card which does not appear on the offered sheets. Many other Hall of Famers, however, are represented on these sheets, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Pete Maravich, Julius Erving, and Bill Walton. Each 132-card sheet is arranged in eleven rows of twelve cards. Eighty-eight of the 176 cards in the set are represented, with half of them double-printed to fill out the sheet. The 1980-1981 Topps Basketball set is designed in tri-fold style so that each card features three individual player sections. An impressive visual is created by these uncut sheets, which have retained all their original gloss and vibrantly bold colors. Normal wear is visible along the edges and at the corners, extremely common on large uncut sheets like this. The white reverses are bright and clean. The important Bird Team Leader cards (twenty-one "143/30/232" arrangements in total) are entirely clean on both front and back, with only light print snow visible on a few of the sheets, and are essentially near-perfect examples. These sheets are ideal for display and would make outstanding companion pieces to any 1980-1981 Topps set or additions to any basketball or uncut-sheet collection. Dimensions: 28-3/8 by 43 inches. Total: 8 uncut sheets. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $720
