1890s McLoughlin Bros. "Parlor Foot-Ball Game"
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,080
This early football board-game rarity, produced by McLoughlin Bros., is especially notable for its colorful cover illustration depicting a game in progress. The players pictured are dressed, respectively, in the uniforms of Yale and Princeton, which is no coincidence, since this very same illustration appears on the company's 1895 board game titled "Yale and Princeton Foot-Ball Game." The interior base of the box constitutes the playing board, while the instructions are printed on the interior lid. This example comes with two spinners (one displays heavy creasing) and eight wooden discs (four dark, four light). The game box (19.75 x 10.5 x 1 inches), constructed of both wood and cardboard, displays light wear and is in Excellent condition overall. The cover illustration remains exceptionally bright and attractive. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,080
