1892 John L. Sullivan vs. James J. Corbett Full Fight Ticket ("Small Version")
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $840
Rare "small-version" ticket to the heavyweight championship bout between John L. Sullivan and James Corbett, held at the Olympic Club in New Orleans on September 7, 1892. This is the first example of this "small version" ticket we have ever handled and we can only recall having seen two others at auction. Corbett defeated Sullivan by knockout in the twenty-first round to win both the Championship and the $25,000 purse. The ticket (3.75 x 2 inches), for a "reserve seat" in "Section E," displays both adhesive residue and surface paper loss on the reverse from having once been mounted in an album; otherwise it remains in Excellent condition. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $840
