1954-1955 Topps Hockey Complete Set (60)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,800

Offered is an exceptionally attractive mid- to high-grade complete set of 1954-1955 Topps hockey cards, the first hockey set issued by Topps. This important set includes only 60 cards, and features players from the four American teams: Detroit, New York, Chicago, and Boston. The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1954-1955 Topps hockey set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. Condition is 50% Ex/Mt to Nr/Mt (including a few better), 30% Ex, and 20% Vg to Vg-Ex. Twenty cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submtted by REA). SGC Grading Composite: One NM/MT 88: #41 Stanley (HOF). Four NM+ 86: #14, 28, 49 Quackenbush (HOF), and 52. Ten NM 84: #10 Worsley (HOF), 15, 20 Gadsby (HOF), 23, 25 Flaman (HOF), 30, 42, 45, 50, and 54. Two EX/NM 80: #3 Howell (HOF) and 5 Kelly (HOF). One EX+ 70: #11 Bathgate (HOF). Two EX 60: #8 Howe (HOF) and 58 Sawchuk (HOF). Ungraded Keys: #1 Gamble (Vg-Ex+), 18 Mohns RC (Ex-Mt), 27 Pronovost (HOF, Ex), 39 DelVecchio (HOF, Ex), 51 Lindsay (HOF, Ex+), and 60 Schmidt (HOF, Vg+). This is an extremely attractive mid- to high-grade set, far above average for this issue, with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. A high-quality and very carefully assembled complete set of one of card collecting's most popular hockey issues. The equivalent SMR value for just the twenty graded cards is $2,790. Total: 60 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,800
