1903 E107 Breisch-Williams John Gochnauer

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,700

E107 Breish-Williams of shortstop John Gochnauer of the Cleveland Naps of the American League. Gochnauer played only three seasons in the Major Leagues (1901-1903), but at the time he was important enough for Breisch-Williams to include him in this set. This card was issued in his final season. Graded POOR 10 by SGC (submitted by REA), the card presents as Vg from the front, but is downgraded due to evidence of album removal on the blank reverse. The front is bright and crisp, with a very faint crease near the left border and four strong corners. In addition, on the reverse, the designation "E107" is faintly penciled in at the top. This is a very attractive example of one of the most obscure players in the E107 set. The fact that the E107 set is the only major card issue of its era and includes many players that appear in few or no other sets is part of its great significance and appeal to collectors. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
