1970 to 1979 Topps Football Complete Set Collection (8 sets, 2,798 cards)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,200

Substantial collection of eight complete Topps football sets spanning the years 1970 through 1979. Though they do not have as many cards as the Topps baseball sets of the era, and are not as valuable, these football sets are actually scarcer than their baseball counterparts. Each set is loaded with all the great stars and Hall of Famers of the decade. Two cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1970 Topps (263 cards): Condition ranges from Ex to Nr/Mt, with a few better and a few technically lesser. Centering is the most common flaw on many of the cards graded Ex or lesser. Keys: #30 Starr (no bottom border, otherwise Nr/Mt), 59 Page RC (Ex-Mt+), 70 Sayers (Gd), 90 Simpson RC (Ex-Mt+), 150 Namath (Ex-Mt), 180 Unitas (Nr/Mt), and 190 Butkus (Nr/Mt). 2) 1970 Topps Glossy (33 cards): Condition is Ex-Mt overall, with a few lesser due to extreme centering issues. 3) 1970 Topps Super (35 cards): Condition is Nr/Mt. 4) 1972 Topps (351 cards): Condition ranges from Ex to Nr/Mt-Mt, with a few technically lesser. Centering is the most common flaw on many of the cards graded Ex or lesser. Keys: #100 Namath (Ex-Mt), 150 Bradshaw (Vg), 200 Staubach RC (2/9 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), 291 Spurrier RC (NM 84), and 343 Namath (MINT 96). 5) 1973 Topps (528 cards): Condition ranges from Ex to Nr/Mt, with a few better and a few technically lesser. Centering is the most common flaw on many of the cards graded Ex or lesser. Keys: #15 Bradshaw (Ex), 77 Shell RC (Ex), 89 Harris RC (Ex), 400 Namath (2/98 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), and 475 Staubach (Ex-Mt). 6) 1974 Topps (528 cards): Condition ranges from Ex to Nr/Mt-Mt, with a few technically lesser. Centering is the most common flaw on many of the cards graded Ex or lesser. Keys: #1 Simpson (Nr/Mt), 219 Guy (Nr/Mt), 383 Hannah RC (Nr/Mt), 470 Bradshaw (Ex-Mt), and 500 Staubach (Nr/Mt). 7) 1978 Topps (528 cards): Condition ranges from Ex to Nr/Mt-Mt, with approximately 10% lesser due to centering issues or hard-to-see creases. Keys: #65 Bradshaw (Nr/Mt), 200 Payton (Nr/Mt-Mt), 290 Staubach (Ex-Mt), 315 Dorsett (Ex-Mt), and 400 Simpson (Nr/Mt+). 8) 1979 Topps (528 cards): Condition ranges from Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, with a few technically lesser due to centering issues. Keys: #200 Tarkenton (Ex-Mt), 308 Newsome RC (95/5 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), 390 Campbell RC (Nr/Mt), 400 Staubach (2/98 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), and 480 Payton (98/2 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt). Also included are four 1970 Topps posters (#14,16, 19, and 24) in Ex-Mt condition. This is a magnificent and extremely attractive collection of eight popular football-card sets from the 1970s (each of which has probably been stored away since the year of issue). From an old-time collection! Total: 2,798 cards (representing eight different football issues). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $4,200
