1965 Topps Football Complete Set Including Namath Rookie (176) with 38 PSA- and SGC-Graded Cards

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,000

Complete set of 1965 Topps Football, one of the most popular and classic of all football-card sets, highlighted by Joe Namath's rookie card. The 1965 Topps Football set is packed with Hall of Famers, rookies, and extremely tough-to-find short prints. 19% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 46% Ex, 21% Vg-Ex, and 14% Gd/Vg. Many cards in the Ex or lesser range appear far better than their technically accurate grades but are downgraded due to gentle corner wear or hard-to-see wrinkles or creases. The set presents with a remarkable degree of consistency in terms of condition. A total of thirty-eight cards (representing slightly more than 20% of the complete set) are graded by either PSA (thirteen) or SGC (twenty-five). Keys: #35 Kemp SP (SGC EX+ 70), 46 Brown RC (slight miscut, otherwise Ex), 69 Blanda SP (Ex-Mt), 87 Checklist SP (marked), 91 Bell SP (SGC EX 60), 99 Dawson SP (Ex), 121 Maynard (SGC EX 60), 122 Namath RC (SGC EX+ 70), 133 Biletnikoff RC (PSA NM 7), 145 Otto (SGC VG/EX+ 55), 155 Alworth (Gd), and 176 Checklist SP (Vg). Other Graded Cards: SGC: NM/MT 88: #127 SP. NM 84: #116 SP and 126. EX 60: #33 SP, 50 SP, 59, 62 SP, 68 SP, 106, 113 SP, 119 SP, 146 SP, 150, and 162 SP. VG/EX+ 55: #57, 64 SP, and 123. VG/EX 50: #21 SP, 139 SP, and 170. PSA: NM+ 7.5: #28 SP and 120. NM 7: #13, 37 SP, 53 SP, 55 SP, 65 SP, 78 SP, 103 SP, 107 SP, 108 SP, and 151 SP. The oversized design of the 1965 Topps Football set makes this issue particularly susceptible to damage, and makes the assembly of high-quality sets all the more difficult. This is a very attractive mixed-grade set, with outstanding eye-appeal across the board, of one of card collecting's most popular football issues. The equivalent SMR value for thirty-one of the graded cards (excluding the seven cards graded less than EX and the additional 138 ungraded cards!) is $1,471. Total: 176 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $3,000
