1953 Bowman Football Complete PSA-Graded Set (96)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,500

Presented is an extremely crisp, high-quality, high-grade complete set of 1953 Bowman Football, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA (except for eleven SGC). The set is highlighted by twenty different Hall of Famers, including Frank Gifford, Otto Graham, and Bobby Layne, as well as two dozen short prints, which can make the assembly of a complete set difficult for collectors. This classic issue features full-color photos on front, with the player's name and team printed inside a football, and biographical and statistical information on the reverse along with illustrated football trivia. This particular set has been carefully assembled over a period of several years by a dedicated collector with an overall focus on eye-appeal. PSA Grading Composite: NM+ 7.5 (1 card): #13. NM 7 (37 cards): #4, 7, 14, 15 Lavelli, 16, 17 Trippi, 21 Layne (SGC NM 84), 23 Finks, 25, 27, 29, 31 (SGC NM 84), 32 McElhenny, 36 Fears (SGC NM 84), 37 Connor, 38 (SGC NM 84), 41 SP, 42, 45 SP, 46, 54 SP, 56 Tittle, 59, 61 (SGC NM 84), 63, 65, 68 SP, 72, 73 Pihos, 77 SP, 81 SP, 85, 86, 87 SP, 88 Nomellini, 92, and 94. EX-MT+ 6.5 (2 cards): #2 and 69. EX-MT 6 (56 cards): #1 LeBaron, 3, 5, 6 Walker, 8, 9 Motley, 10, 11 Van Brocklin, 12, 18, 19, 20, 22 Hirsch, 24 Bednarik, 26 Graham (SGC EX/NM 80), 28, 30, 33, 34 Creekmur, 35, 39 SP (SGC EX/NM 80), 40, 43 Gifford SP, 44 SP, 47 SP, 48, 49 SP, 50, 51 (SGC EX/NM 80), 52, 53 Tunnell SP, 55 SP, 57 SP, 58 SP (SGC EX/NM 80), 60 (SGC EX/NM 80), 62 SP, 64 SP, 66 SP, 67 SP, 70 SP, 71, 74, 75, 76 (SGC EX/NM 80), 78, 79, 80, 82, 83, 84, 89, 90, 91, 93, 95 Groza SP, and 96 SP. This is a very attractive set, with all cards bright, crisp, and clean. Centering or light touches of wear at the corners are most often responsible for keeping the Ex-Mt cards from grading higher despite an overall appearance in line with the Near Mint examples throughout. A tremendous opportunity to acquire a complete set of this classic mid-1950s football set, entirely graded by PSA. The total SMR value for this set is $4,970. Total: 96 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $4,500
