2001 Cal Ripken Jr. Signed Game-Used Base - MLB Authentication!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $840
Few baseball players in modern times have enjoyed both the success and popularity of Cal Ripken Jr. When Ripken announced that the 2001 season would be his last, fans in each American League city joined with their respective club in giving baseball's legendary "Iron Man" a hero's sendoff during his farewell appearance. Fittingly, Major League Baseball joined in the yearlong celebration by producing special Cal Ripken Jr. commemorative bases to be used in each of the games played by the Orioles that season. Offered here is one of the bases used in the game between the Orioles and the Miami Marlins on July 15, 2001, at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. Two of the four sides on the standard white base feature an honorary number "8" insert, while the other two sides feature, respectively, the Orioles' and Marlins' team logos. A MLB hologram label (#GT034826) is affixed to the underside of the base. Ripken has signed the base along the top in black Sharpie (grading "9"). The base (15 x 15 x 2 inches) displays wear consistent with one-game use, including numerous cleat marks. This is a significant piece of game-used equipment, with impeccable provenance, commemorating the end of Ripken's 21-year Hall of Fame career. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA (for the autograph only).
