1910 Allentown Police and 1923 YMCA Baseball Ribbon Badges
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $240
Pair of early 1900s baseball ribbon badges, each issued for a local contest, including one with a novel adornment. 1) Allentown Police Badge. The badge, which features an ornate gold-colored trim, reads "Base Ball, while the purple ribbon below is lettered "Reading Police vs. Allentown Police - Allentown - For Mine - For A Good Time - August 9th, 1910." What truly distinguishes this piece is the added adornment on the front: a small, wooden billy club that is attached to the badge by a thin string. The piece (2.5 x 6.5 inches) displays a heavy diagonal crease (running border to border) at the base of the ribbon which is partially torn at either edge, as well as a few additional tiny border tears. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. 2) Y. M. C. A. Badge. The badge features a gold-colored trim and a blue ribbon that reads "Y. M. C. A. Gym 1923 - Indoor Base Ball League - Employed Boys - Won by Yanks." The piece (2 x 4.5 inches) displays moderate wear to the ribbon, including a few light creases and minor fraying along the base. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Total: 2 badges. From the personal collection of Dr. Paul Muchinsky, legendary pioneer collector and author of Baseball Pinback Buttons: A Photographically Illustrated Compendium and Price Guide. Reserve $100.
