1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life Larry Doyle

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,440

Presented is an attractive, modestly graded example of New York Giants infielder Larry Doyle from the W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set. W600s are one of the rarest sets from the early part of the century, and are one of the most substantial and well-made card sets ever produced. With good reason, they have always been highly prized by serious collectors. Graded PR-FR 1 (MK) by PSA, this example presents as Vg-Ex, with a crisp image, strong corners, and flawless surface. It has been downgraded due to small areas of paper loss and two purple ink stamps on the reverse, one of which advertises duplicates available for purchase from Sporting Life at a cost of ten cents each. This is a very striking and (due to its low technical grade) relatively affordable example of Larry Doyle from one of the most important of all twentieth-century sets. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
