1913 New York Giants World Series Press Pin
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,300
New York Giants press pin issued for the 1913 World Series against the Philadelphia Athletics. All pre-1920 World Series press pins are extremely rare and this example is no exception. This 1913 press pin is also among the earliest of all press pins. (The first press pin was issued just two years prior, in 1911.) The circular pin displays a scalloped edge and is lettered "World Series/Giants." Featured in the center of the pin is the raised image of a catcher's mask above a crossed bats-and-ball motif, along with the year, "1913." This is an outstanding example of this early press pin rarity, with perfect enamel and only light surface wear. This is just the third 1913 Giants World Series press pin we have offered since 1997. The first sold for $7,050 in April 2008 (Lot 1307), while the second realized $4,700 in May 2011 (Lot 1337). The pin displays some light tarnishing on the front and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag; threaded-post back. Diameter: 1.25 inches. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $3,300
