1887 N172 Old Judge Cap Anson Portrait SGC EX/NM 80 - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $4,800

Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Extraordinary 1887 N172 Old Judge portrait example of Cap Anson (pose #11-1). The offered example features a magnificent portrait of the nineteenth century's greatest star. The contrast on this example is a little light, but it is still fairly crisp and strong enough to see the dots on Anson's tie. (The photo quality on many N172 Ansons is so poor that many collectors don't even realize that Anson's tie has any dots.) The card is clean and crisp, both front and back. Well centered, with four strong corners. This is an exceptionally high-grade example of N172 Cap Anson, one of the nineteenth century's most desirable and classic cards, and a card which would be a significant highlight in even the most advanced pre-1900 or Hall of Fame collection. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
