Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,280
Pair of Joe DiMaggio limited-edition pieces, each originating from the Joe DiMaggio Estate, together with a specially made display case for optimal presentation. 1) Limited-Edition Joe DiMaggio Career Ring. The 10K gold ring, produced by Balfour, is one of only fifty-six such rings ever produced and features DiMaggio's uniform number, "5," set upon a blue stone on the front. Fourteen small diamonds are set within the number "5." The lettering along the perimeter of the bezel reads "Joe DiMaggio." One Shank displays the name "Yankee Clipper" and four bats. Engraved, respectively, on each bat are "9 World Series Wins," "2,214 Hits, 361 HRS," "Lifetime .325 Average," and "AL M.V.P. 1939 41 47." The other shank reads features a baseball-diamond design and reads "Joe DiMaggio 56 Games Hitting Streak." The limitation number "YC 23/56" is engraved on the interior, as are "Balfour" and "10K." The ring displays an area of surface abrasion/scratches on the exterior ring band and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Weight: 30 grams. Approximate size: 12. It is our understanding that these very substantial rings were made available to the public directly by the Joe DiMaggio Estate many years ago with an original retail price tag of $3,500. Accompanied by a COA from the Joe DiMaggio Estate. 2) Limited-Edition Joe DiMaggio Single-Signed "Portrait" Ball. The Rawlings "Official League" ball has been specially inscribed "Joe DiMaggio/Yankee Clipper" in blue ink (grading "10") on the sweet spot. A color portrait of DiMaggio appears on the panel directly below. The handwritten limitation number, "23/56" is located on the sweet spot, just to the right of DiMaggio's signature. Accompanied by a LOA (with matching hologram label on the ball) from Morris Engleberg, DiMaggio's attorney, on behalf of Yankee Clipper Enterprises. Mint condition. Included with the ring and ball are a custom-made wood display case (12.5 x 10.5 x 3.5 inches), with glass top, so that both items can be displayed together. Total: 3 items (ring, ball, and display case). Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,280
