Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,320
Titled Willie Stargell, issued in 1980, serigraph numbered "147/300," flawlessly signed in pencil in the lower margin by Stargell and Neiman (both grading "10"). Edition limited to 359 total impressions (300 numbered impressions, 50 artist's proofs, and 9 printer's proofs). Such early Neiman serigraphs are very difficult to find. "Pop" Stargell was both one of the game's greatest sluggers and one of the most popular players of his era. This piece was produced the year following the Pirates' historic 1979 World Championship season. Stargell enjoyed one of his greatest seasons that year, winning both the National League MVP award (he shared the award with Keith Hernandez) and World Series MVP Award. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1988. This is a modern classic and widely recognized as the premier Stargell signed display piece. The serigraph measures 26.5 x 37.5 inches (image area) and is in apparent Near Mint Condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 39.5 x 52 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,320
