Circa 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers Usher's Cap
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $10,200
Rare Brooklyn Dodgers usher's cap dating from the 1950s. The red cap, with black brim, features a blue trim and a gold-braid embellishment on the front. The team name, "Dodgers," is embroidered in white stitching on the front, below which is a small pin-back button, reading "41 Dodgers." Stitched to the top of the interior is a plastic sleeve, fashioned in the shape of a home plate, that has the words "Ebbets Field" written upon it in faded blue ink. Our consignor, who lives in Brooklyn, discovered this cap in a secondhand clothing store near his home in the early 1970s! Excited, because he knew exactly what it was, he nearly tore the store apart in the hopes that he might find the matching jacket, but to no avail. This is an extremely rare piece of Brooklyn Dodgers history and we have only seen one other example at auction in the past twenty-five years. The cap displays moderate wear, including a few small insect holes along the top and some minor tears to the interior leather band. The button (2 inches in diameter) displays toning and a number of moderate scratches. The original size tag ("7 1/4") remains firmly affixed to the interior. In Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $10,200
