1960s Mickey Mantle Hartland Lamp Complete with Bat
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,160
While nearly all collectors are familiar with Hartland baseball statues, most will be surprised to learn that the company also produced a Mickey Mantle lamp that was sold in retail stores on a limited basis in the early 1960s. Presented here is one of those rare examples, complete with all of its original components, including bat and shade. The design features a plastic figure of Mantle mounted upon a circular wood base, with the lamp pole positioned behind the figure. This is the second of two versions of this lamp produced by Hartland. The first featured a rectangular base and an oval shade, but the gold-painted Mantle figure is identical for each. The lamp displays moderate wear, including a number of cracks and chips to the fragile bat (the bat is normally broken or missing on most surviving examples), a few minor blemishes to the pedestal, and a few minor indentations and tiny pinholes to the shade. (We have noticed that the shades to other examples of this lamp often have pinholes, which may have been the result of former owners displaying pins and buttons on the front of it.) The lamp is fully functional and in Very Good condition overall. This is both an attractive and scarce Mantle collectible dating from the height of his legendary career. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,160
