1954 Say Hey! Willie Mays Baseball Game

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $960

Looking to capitalize on Willie Mays' fame following his 1954 MVP season, the Toy Development Company, Inc., released this tabletop baseball game, titled, appropriately, "Say Hey! It's Willie Mays' Baseball Game." This game has long been recognized as one of the rarest, most desirable, and most ideal-for-display of all 1950s baseball games. The cover features a portrait illustration of Mays and prominently notes his "MVP" status for the season. The game includes a small sepia photo of Mays (the key piece and one that is often missing from most examples), game board (with three separate spinners), rules, two blank score sheets, and four wooden "player" discs. The game components display general wear and are in Excellent condition overall. The lid of the box (14 x 9.5 x 1.25 inches) displays a split corner, as well as general wear, including a few light stains. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
