1952 New York Yankees Lineup Card with Mantle - Signed by Stengel!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $840
New York Yankees lineup card, from a game played at Griffith Stadium on August 6, 1952, signed by manager Casey Stengel in blue ink (grading "10") in the lower right corner. The year, "1952," is printed along the top, while the reverse features the printed ground rules for Griffith Stadium. The Yankees lineup, written in Stengel's hand in blue ink, reads "Noren 1B, Rizzuto SS, Bauer RF, Mantle CF, Woodling LF, McDougald 2B, Carey 3B, and Schaeffer P." Although only the year is printed at the top, the fact that Schaeffer is listed as the pitcher makes it easy to pinpoint the date of the game. Harry Schaeffer only started two games for the Yankees in 1952 (his only season in the majors), and of those two starts, only one was in Chicago. This lineup matches the box score from the game between the Yankees and Senators on August 6th, which was won by the Senators 6-4. Shaeffer pitched six innings, allowing three runs, but did not factor in the decision. The Yankees only managed six hits, with McDougald accounting for two of them. Mantle went hitless in the game. The lineup card (3.75 x 4.75 inches) displays an approximate one-inch area of toning along the top border and a small diagonal crease in the upper right. In Very Good condition overall. Accompanied by a ticket stub (bleacher seat) from the game (2.75 x 1.25 inches; Vg, with paper residue on the reverse). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $840
