1949 New York Yankees World Series Ring
Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $7,200
New York Yankees World Series ring issued in commemoration of the club's 1949 World Championship season. The 10K gold ring, produced by Balfour, features a single diamond set within a baseball-diamond motif on the front. "New York Yankees - World Champions" is lettered in relief along the front perimeter. Each shank displays the identical design: a depiction of the Yankees' famous "top hat" logo, above which is the the year, "1949." The name engraved in script on the interior appears to read "Joe Morine" (possibly a front office executive, scout, or minor-league employee). "Balfour" and "10k" are also engraved on the interior. 1949 marked the first of New York's record five consecutive World Championships, making this both a historically significant and desirable World Series ring commemorating the start of baseball's greatest dynasty. This is only the second 1949 New York Yankees World Series ring we have ever offered. The first (issued to a scout and featuring a CZ stone instead of a real diamond) appeared as Lot 1289 in REA's May 2011 auction, where it sold for $9,988. The ring is in Excellent condition overall. Size: approximately 12.5. Weight: 25 grams. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $7,200
