Two 1912-1913 Baseball Team Pocket Mirrors
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $480
Pair of outstanding souvenir pocket mirrors, dating from the early 1900s, each featuring a team photo of a local baseball club. 1) Oval mirror (2.75 x 1.75 inches), picturing a local town team, that was produced as a promotional giveaway by a Pennsylvania merchant. The team's name and year are lettered along the base, "Schuylkill Haven Base Ball Club 1912, " while the text along the top reads "Compliments of Mellon's Cafe - Schuylkill Haven, PA. - J. D. Mellon Proprietor." The front displays a few small areas of light age toning and moderate scratches. The mirror side has a little wear to the silvering (which is very common with pocket mirrors). In Very Good condition. 2) Circular mirror (2.25 inches in diameter) picturing the Blandon Base Ball Club. The club's name and year are printed along the top, "Blandon A.A. Base Ball Team 1913," while the name "Houck" (most likely the name of the photographer) appears in print along the base. Impressive mirror with strong image. The pin displays light wear, with some normal minor oxidation and tarnishing to the mirror. In Excellent to Mint condition. Total: 2 pins. From the personal collection of Dr. Paul Muchinsky, legendary pioneer collector and author of Baseball Pinback Buttons: A Photographically Illustrated Compendium and Price Guide. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $480
