1940s/1950s Complete Set of American League & National League Tabs (Very Scarce)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,440
Complete set of major league baseball tabs, circa 1940s/1950s, representing each team in both the American and National leagues. These distinctively designed tabs are exceedingly rare and we cannot recall the last time we saw even an individual example, let alone a complete set. Similar to pins, these metal tabs feature a small round-tipped extension at the top that is meant to be folded over a lapel or pocket edge so that the tab can be displayed on a jacket or shirt. The rectangular middle section denotes the team's league affiliation, while the circular bottom portion features the club's colorful logo. The sixteen teams represented here are the Cubs, Cardinals, Pirates, Phillies, Giants, Braves, Reds, Dodgers, Tigers, White Sox, Browns, Indians, Senators (identified as "Nationals" on the tab), Athletics, Red Sox, and Yankees. Both the Cubs and Phillies tabs display moderate wear; otherwise the collection is in Excellent to Mint condition overall. Size: 1.25 x 2.25 inches. Total: 16 tabs. From the personal collection of Dr. Paul Muchinsky, legendary pioneer collector and author of Baseball Pinback Buttons: A Photographically Illustrated Compendium and Price Guide. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,440
