1945 Cubs and 1946 Red Sox Mini Bat - Pennant - Pin Combination Stadium Novelties (2)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420

Offered here are two identical 1940s souvenir mini bats, each of which has been paired with a vintage team mini pennant and pin, relating to, respectively, the 1945 Chicago Cubs and 1946 Boston Red Sox. It was not uncommon for enterprising stadium vendors to create special offerings such as these, which of course were sold at a premium to less elaborate souvenir offerings. Each mini bat, measuring 9.5 inches in length, is stamped "World's Champions" on the barrel. One has been paired with a blue Chicago Cubs mini pennant (9 inches long; reads "Cubs" and pictures two bear cubs), affixed to which is a 1945 Chicago Cubs World Series pin (1.25 inches in diameter) with attached yellow ribbon. The other bat has been paired with a Boston Red Sox mini pennant (8.5 inches long; reads "Boston Red Sox - American League Champions"), affixed to which is a stadium pin of Ted Williams (1.75 inches in diameter) with attached red-white-and-blue ribbon. The Red Sox pennant has been affixed to the bat by means of two staples, while the Cubs pennant is tied to the bat by the tassels. All of the items are in strong condition displaying only light wear, with the Cubs pin displaying a few small areas of light toning. In Excellent condition overall. Total: 6 items (two mini bats, two mini pennants, and two pins). From the personal collection of Dr. Paul Muchinsky, legendary pioneer collector and author of Baseball Pinback Buttons: A Photographically Illustrated Compendium and Price Guide. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $420
