1930s Blum's Baseball Bulletin Premium Collection (9)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360
This collection of nine large-format (11.5 x 13.75 inches) Blum's Baseball Bulletin premiums is comprised of eight of the sixteen examples cataloged in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, plus one premium of Grover Alexander that does not appear on the checklist (the Standard Catalog acknowledges that its checklist is incomplete). These premiums were issued during the 1930s and not much else is known about them other than the credit line along the base of each that reads "Compiled by Fred J. Blum, Publisher, Blum's Baseball Bulletin." Each premium, printed on paper stock, pictures an image of the respective player, below which is brief biography. The premiums in this collection are as follows: 1) Grover Alexander; 2) Lefty Grove; 3) Dazzy Vance; 4) Billy Southworth; 5) James McAvoy; 6) George Toporcer; 7) Heinie Groh; 8) Bill Donovan, and 9) a 1911 Rochester team composite. This is a very substantial group of these unusual, very distinctive, and seldom-seen premiums. All of the premiums display light toning along the edges, as well as minor border wear and some extremely light foxing (mainly along the edges). In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Total: 9 premiums. Reserve $200. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $360
