Circa 1927 Babe Ruth Underwear in Original Box with Related Promotional Photo!
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $480
Among Babe Ruth's more unusual endorsements was the brand of underwear that bore his name. The colorful box in which underwear was sold features Ruth's portrait and has always been extremely popular with baseball and general advertising collectors alike. Offered is an example of this classic box, which still houses a pair of "Babe Ruth All America Athletic Underwear," plus an original photo of Ruth visiting the factory where the underwear was produced. The box (9.75 x 12.75 x 2.75 inches) displays splits along the flaps (some of which are repaired by clear tape), light staining on the top of the lid, and minor creases throughout. A store label from a Portland, Oregon, merchant appears on the bottom of the box. In Good condition overall. The underwear displays light toning and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. The photo (10 x 8 inches) retains its original paper caption on the reverse that reads "Babe Ruth with superintendent at the factory of the McLoughlin Manufacturing Company, Indianapolis, Indiana - Makers of the Babe Ruth Underwear. August 15th, 1927." Vg, with a number of small edge tears and creases. The Babe Ruth Underwear box is a baseball advertising classic; it is rarely found in such high grade and naturally is rarely found with an example of the Babe Ruth brand underwear; and the accompanying photograph is both an extreme rarity and ideal for display with the box! Total: 3 items (box, underwear, and photo). Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $480
