1921 Paul Thompson Original New York Yankees News Photo with Babe Ruth - PSA/DNA Type 1

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,440

Original news photo, taken by noted baseball photographer Paul Thompson, picturing five members of the New York Yankees posing together on field at the Polo Grounds: Babe Ruth, Frank Baker, Bob Meusel, Wally Pipp, and Roger Peckinpaugh. Encapsulated and certified as an Original Type 1 photograph by PSA/DNA. Paul Thompson's credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does the handwritten notation "Yankees Murderers row L-R PIpp, Ruth, Peckinpaugh, Meusel, and Baker." Based upon the uniform style shown here and the players pictured, this photo can be conclusively dated to the 1921 season. Ruth hit a then-record 59 home runs in 1921, which topped his previous mark of 54 in 1920. Meusel was second in the league in home runs that year, with 24, while "Home Run" Baker added 9 during his penultimate season in the majors. The photo (9.75 x 7.5 inches) displays a few tiny edge tears, chips, and minor surface wrinkles. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,440
