1922 Original New York Giants Team News Photo - PSA/DNA Type 1
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $600
Original news photo capturing the 1922 World Champion New York Giants in a classic team pose. Accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA certifying it as an "Original Type 1 News Service Photograph." Thirty-one team members are pictured posing together at the Polo Grounds, including John McGraw (Mgr.), Frankie Frisch, Hughie Jennings (coach), Casey Stengel, Ross Youngs, Dave Bancroft, George Kelly, and Heinie Groh. The original paper news caption, dated "9/26/22" is attached to the reverse. An Underwood & Underwood credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does the date stamp "Oct 26 1922" and a few editorial pencil notations and stampings. The Giants captured their second consecutive World Championship in 1922 by once again beating the New York Yankees in the World Series. Unfortunately for McGraw, the victory marked his final World Championship with the Giants. The photo (10 x 8 inches) displays a few light creases, a few edge chips, and some tiny areas of light discoloration along the borders. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+.
