1876 Boston (vs. Philadelphia) National League Scorecard - National League Inaugural Season - With George Wright and Jim O'Rourke!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $960

Exceedingly rare fold-over scorecard issued for a game between the Philadelphia Athletics and the Boston Red Stockings, held in Boston, dating from the National League's inaugural 1876 season. The preprinted lineups include George Wright, Jim O'Rourke, Andy Leonard, Tim Murnane, and John Morrill for Boston, and George Hall, Levi Meyerle. Ezra Sutton, and Dave Eggler for Philadelphia. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 19-11 Boston victory. Although the interior of the scorecard bears the preprinted date of "Monday, 15th," the game recorded here was played on Saturday May 13th, and represented Boston's eighth game of the season. An advertisement for a Boston clothing store appears on both the front and back covers. The printing along the edges of the interior advertise both Harry Wright's "New Pocket Score Book" and George Wright's sporting-goods store. Any and all items dating from the first year of the National League are extremely rare and of special note. This is only the third 1876 National League scorecard we have offered (and just the fourth we have seen) in the past ten years. The scorecard (4.75 x 5.75 inches, unfolded) displays only modest handling wear and is in Excellent to Mint condition overall.
