1960 New York Yankees Spring-Training Program (vs. Pirates) Signed by Clemente and Six Other Players
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,560
1960 New York Yankees spring-training program, issued for a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, signed on the front cover by seven players, including Hall of Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente. Clemente's signature has been beautifully scripted in blue ink along the top border and grades "10." The remaining blue-ink signatures ("9/10") are those of Elroy Face, Bobby Richardson, Vernon Law, Don Hoak, and two others (illegible). According to the Yankees home spring-training schedule, which is printed on the front cover, this program was signed on April 2nd, which was the only date the Pirates traveled to St. Petersburg to play the Yankees that spring. The program (7 x 10 inches) is not scored, but the lineups for each team have been handwritten in blue ink, including Mantle, Maris, and Berra for New York, and Clemente, Mazzeroski, and Virdon for Pittsburgh. This game foreshadowed what would be the extraordinary matchup in the 1960 World Series, which was won by Pittsburgh in seven games. Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,560
