1955 Bill Dickey Signed Passport
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,200
United States passport issued to Hall of Fame catcher Bill Dickey on September 16,1955. A United States passport is a particularly rare and substantial official document for any player, all the more so as it includes a portrait photograph and (often) a rare full-name signature example, as is the case here. Dickey's full name was William Malcolm Dickey, and he has signed the passport once in that manner on page three, and then again as "William M. Dickey" across his photo on page four. The first signature, executed in blue ink, grades "9," while the second, on his photo, was scripted in black ink and grades "7." Dickey used this passport while coaching the New York Yankees during the club's famous 1955 postseason tour of the Far East! The Yankees traveled to both Japan and the Philippines during that tour, and both visits are duly record in this book. The 32-page passport (3.75 x 6.25 inches), which has stampings on the first fourteen pages, remains in Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,200
