1909-1911 E90-1 American Caramel Rarity: Mike Mitchell, Cincinnati
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $720
One of the legendary rarities of candy cards, from the E90-1 American Caramel series, Mitchell, Cincinnati, was often referred to by collectors as the "Honus Wagner of E cards" in the early days of organized collecting. Graded PR 1 by PSA, this card presents far better than suggested by its modest assigned grade! This is an outstanding example, with a bright yellow background, even wear to the corners, full borders, and near-perfect centering. The card is downgraded due to paper loss on the reverse, likely from album removal at some point in time. This is a very attractive example of this legendary key rarity from the most popular caramel-card set of the era. Today collectors recognize many cards as being of various degrees of rarity in the E90-1 set, but Mitchell, Cincinnati (along with the Joe Jackson rookie card, also from the same set), will always be the most famous key rarity of the classic E90-1 American Caramel set. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $720
