Enormous "Novelty Baseball" Signed by 80 Former Stars Including 70 Different Hall of Famers!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,700

This gigantic novelty baseball, which measures a spectacular thirty-eight inches in circumference (compared to nine inches for a regulation baseball), has been signed in blue Sharpie by eighty former baseball stars, including seventy different Hall of Fame players. (It should be noted that thirty of the Hall of Famers represented here are deceased!) This is one of the most unusual and attractive signed display pieces we have ever seen, and one that naturally makes for an incredible conversation piece. It also stands in stark contrast to the more commonly seen Hall of Fame signed bats that proliferate in the hobby (and can also be signed by a similar number of stars). Ideally, the large surface area has resulted in correspondingly large signature examples, all of which are clearly legible, with no crowding or overlapping as is sometimes found on conventional multisigned balls and bats. The Hall of Fame players represented on this ball are Aaron, Aparicio, Appling, Ashburn, Banks, Barlick, Bench, Berra, Blyleven, Boudreau, Brock, Carew, Carlton, Dandridge, DiMaggio, Doerr, Drysdale, Eckersley, Feller, Ferrell, Fingers, Ford, Gibson, Gomez, Henderson, Herman, Hunter, Irvin, Kaline, R. Jackson, Jenkins, Kell, Killebrew, Kiner, Koufax, Lemon, Leonard, Mantle, Marichal, Mays, McCovey, Mize (black Sharpie), Molitor, Morgan, Musial, Niekro, Palmer, Perry, Puckett, Reese, Ripken, Roberts, B. Robinson, F. Robinson, Sandberg, Schmidt, Schoendienst, Seaver, Slaughter, Snider, Spahn, Stargell, Sutton, Weaver, B. Williams, T. Williams, Winfield, Wynn, Yastrzemski, and Yount. The non-Hall of Fame players represented here are Bob Boone, Bert Campaneris, Jose Canseco, Steve Garvey, Don Larsen, Mark McGwire, Minnie Minoso (black Sharpie), Pete Rose, Lonnie Smith, and Johnny Vander Meer. Signatures range from "6" (due to minor fading) to "10," averaging "8." The ball, which displays no manufacturer's stampings, remains in Near Mint to Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA.  Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,700
