Autographed 1985-1995 Perez-Steele Great Moments Postcards Set (66 Signed Cards)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,300
Complete set of Perez-Steele Great Moments Postcards, including sixty-six signed examples. One of the most beautiful sets ever issued, Perez-Steele's Great Moments set began publication in 1985. The offering was limited to 5,000 numbered sets with periodical updates. The set is fashioned after the colorful T-3 Turkey Red cabinet cards of 1911 and salutes the defining moments in the careers of Baseball Hall of Famers. The complete set is comprised of 108 cards, which were issued in nine twelve-card series. The offered complete set is numbered "2401." Of the 108 cards in the set, only seventy could have possibly been signed (the other thirty-eight cards depict players who died prior to the set's issue).
The offered set features signed examples of sixty-six of the possible seventy cards, making it the most complete signed set we have ever handled. The sixty-six signed cards in this set are Kaline, Ford, Aaron, Musial, T. Williams, Spahn, Koufax, Roberts, Mantle, Banks, McCovey, Mize, Reese, Irvin, Mathews, Slaughter, Gehringer, Snider, Dandridge, Hubbell, Doerr, Dickey, Stargell, B. All of the signatures have been scripted in blue Sharpie on the front and range from "7" to "10," averaging "9/10." The cards remain in Nr/Mt-Mt condition. As a point of reference, a complete Great Moments set, featuring sixty-four signed examples, appeared as Lot 949 in our April 2012 auction, where it sold for $2,666. Both the Mantle and T. Williams signed cards are accompanied by individual full LOAs from PSA/DNA. Individual COAs from PSA/DNA accompany the signed cards of Mays and Snider (card #87), Hunter, Mays, Gomez, Dickey, Koufax, and Aaron. All of the remaining signed cards are accompanied by individual COAs from SGC. Total 108 cards (66 signed). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,300
