1910 E98 Anonymous "Set of 30" John McGraw PSA EX+ 5.5 - Blue Background - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $600

Graded EX+ 5.5 by PSA. High-grade example of New York Giants Hall of Famer John McGraw from the E98 "Set of 30" candy-card issue featuring a very scarce and desirable blue background. This is the ONLY blue-background example graded at this level with none higher! Blue is considered by many collectors to be the most difficult of the four colors to find within this set. Miraculously, the recent "Black Swamp Find" of more than 600 pristine E98 cards did not include a single blue-background example! For many years, E98s were among the scarcest of the 1910-era caramel cards, but the recent find has changed the population dramatically. E98s have always been very desirable, and their increased availability and noteworthiness due to the find may have actually increased the demand as more collectors have become familiar with the set. This is a beautiful example, with a crisp image, four strong corners, and outstanding centering. Caramel cards in general are much rarer than tobacco cards of the era. Because they were issued with caramels one card per package and sold to children (as opposed to being sold to adults with tobacco), they also tend to survive in a much lower grade. This is an exceptionally strong, highest-graded E98 example of McGraw from this extremely desirable early twentieth-century candy issue.  Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $600
