1981 Willie Mays Signed Photo Collection - Armenian Church Superstar Show Provenance! (12)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $540

Collection of twelve identical 8 x 10-inch color photos of Willie Mays as a member of the New York Mets, each signed in blue Sharpie (grading "10") on the front by Mays. These photos have a unique and extraordinary provenance in that they originate directly from one of Mays' earliest card-show appearances, in 1981 at the Armenian Church in New York City! These photos were personally signed for the promoter of that show, our consignor, and were put aside by him at that time as personal keepsakes of the event. The great success and positive reception of the Armenian Church show played a significant role in launching the entire era of stars signing at card shows. Included with the twelve signed photographs are an original ticket from the show and a photocopy picturing our consignor and Mays posing together at the signing table. As noted on the ticket, the other two signers at the three-day show (March 20, 21, and 22) were Ed Krandepool and Sal Maglie. All of the photos remain in Near Mint condition. This is an outstanding collection of Mays signed photos dating from the dawn of the hobby’s “explosion” during the 1980s. Total: 12 photos. LOA from James Spence/JSA.  Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $540
