1955 American League All-Star Team Signed Ball with Mantle and Seven Other Hall of Famers
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,080
Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in either black or blue ink by the following twenty-seven members of the 1955 American League All-Star team: Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Larry Doby, Whitey Ford, Nellie Fox, Al Lopez (Mgr.), Tony Cuccinello (coach), Don Gutteridge (coach), Al Kaline, Early Wynn, Jackie Jensen, Al Rosen, Herb Score, Mickey Vernon, Jim Wilson, Vic Power, Chico Carrasquel (on ball label), Billy Pierce, Dick Donovan, Al Smith, Bob Avila, Bob Turley, Harvy Kuenn, Jim Finigan, Sherm Lollar, Frank Sullivan, and Billy Hoeft. (Please note: the signature of Ted Williams on the sweet spot has been deemed a clubhouse version by JSA.) Also appearing on the ball are the signatures of Don Mossi and Bill Lobe. (Both Mossi and Lobe were members of the Cleveland Indians in 1955; Mossi was a pitcher and Lobe a coach.) The signatures are all fairly uniform in grade, averaging "9." The ball remains in Near Mint condition. The National League defeated the American League 6-5 in the 1955 midsummer classic, held at County Stadium in Milwaukee on July 12th. Most of the offense for the American League was provided by Mickey Mantle, who stacked his club to an early lead with his three-run homer in the top of the first. Unfortunately, the American League pitchers were unable to hold a 5-0 lead, allowing the National League to tie the game with two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth. The game remained knotted until Stan Musial won it for the Nationals with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the twelfth. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,080
