1945 Mel Ott Signed Government Postcard - PSA/DNA MINT 9
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $960
Government postcard beautifully signed on the front in black ink by Hall of Fame outfielder Mel Ott. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with the signature graded MINT 9. The card, which has been addressed and mailed, is postmarked "Jun 28, 1945, 10:30 PM New York, N. Y." Ott was player/manager of the New York Giants at the time this card was signed. Unfortunately, he was probably in a sour mood that evening, as his Giants lost to the Pirates 3-1 that afternoon at the Polo Grounds, with Ott contributing a single in four at bats. Ott signature examples are scarce due to the fact the died in 1958 at the age of forty-nine. The offered signature is not only a high-grade example, but one that dates from his active playing career, making it especially desirable to collectors. The postcard (5.5 x 3.25 inches) displays a moderate diagonal crease in the upper left corner (not affecting the signature) and two small areas of adhesive residue on the reverse from its having once been mounted in an album. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $960
