1937 Eddie Collins Signed Player-Assignment Document

One-page document, dated August 30, 1937, signed by Hall of Fame second baseman Eddie Collins. This legal agreement, which is officially titled "Uniform Agreement for the Assignment of a Player's Contract to or by a Major League Club," officially transfers the contract of Al Niemiec from the Little Rock Travelers of the Southern Association to the Boston Red Sox for the sum of $6,000. As noted in the agreement, Niemiec is to remain with Little Rock for the remainder of the 1937 season. Collins has signed the agreement, "Edward T. Collins," in black fountain pen (grading "8/9") along the base in his capacity as vice president of the Red Sox. The document has also been signed in black fountain pen by Ray Thompson (for Little Rock). Collins was an executive with the Boston Red Sox from 1932 until his death in 1951. The document (8.5 x 11 inches) displays two horizontal fold lines, three staple holes, and very light toning along the borders. In Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA.
