Circa 1930s Babe Ruth Single-Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,040
Spalding "Star" baseball signed in black fountain pen by Babe Ruth across the sweet spot. Ruth's signature grades "7/8," but, as noted in the accompanying full LOA from JSA, the signature at some point in time "has been partially enhanced by an unknown hand." We have no information regarding the manufacturing process of Spalding retail balls; however, if the company's logo on retail balls matched that used on its official National League balls, this particular example would probably date to the 1928 to 1933 manufacturing period. Additionally, the fact that the "Babe" portion of Ruth's signature does not feature quotation marks almost certainly dates it to the 1930s or later, because Ruth ended that practice sometime around 1929. The ball displays light toning, as well as a few stray ink marks, and is in Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,040
