1934 New York Yankees Team-Signed Ball with Ruth and Gehrig - PSA/DNA 5.5 - Gehrig's Triple Crown Season!

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $4,500

Spalding Babe Ruth "Home Run Special" ball signed in black fountain pen by twenty-six members of the 1934 New York Yankees. Authenticated and graded EX+ 5.5 by PSA/DNA (autographs graded 6 overall; ball graded 5). The twenty-six signatures appearing on the ball are those of Ruth (sweet spot), Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs, Ruffing, Gomez, Dickey, Saltzgaver, Byrd, Van Atta, Allen, Uhle, Murphy, Jorgens, MacFayden, Walker, Rolfe, Smythe, Kies, Devens, Crosetti, Hoag, Heffner, Lary, Chapman, and DeShong. This ball was obviously signed early in the season, possibly during spring training, because Lyn Lary was traded to the Boston Red Sox on May 15th and Norman Kies never saw major league action in 1934 (he was a member of the Newark Bears that year). Although the Yankees finished in second place in 1934, it marked a turning point in Lou Gehrig's fabled career, as he finally emerged from Babe Ruth's enormous shadow. For the first time ever Gehrig finally eclipsed Ruth in home runs, hitting a league-leading 49 round trippers to Ruth's 22. Gehrig also led the league in RBI (165) and batting average (.363), which earned him the coveted Triple Crown. The ball displays light-to-moderate surface wear and all of the manufacturer's stampings remain bold and legible. Housed in its PSA/DNA ball cube (seals broken). Full LOA from PSA/DNA and LOA from James Spence/JSA.   Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $4,500
