Circa 1928 Babe Ruth Single-Signed Ball - PSA/DNA

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $10,200

Spalding Babe Ruth "Home Run Special" baseball signed by Babe Ruth across the sweet spot. Ruth has scripted his name in black fountain pen, with the signature grading "7/8." During the late 1920s/early 1930s, the Spalding "Home Run Special" was the baseball of choice for most of America's youth and if there were any hesitation by consumers as to what ball was best, Ruth's facsimile signature on the ball label usually sealed the deal. It was also the perfect ball upon which to receive Ruth's autograph. The fact that the "Babe" portion of Ruth's signature on this example features quotation marks almost certainly dates it to the late 1920s, because he apparently ended the practice sometime around 1929. The ball is toned, with a number of minor abrasions throughout, but the manufacturer's stampings remain clearly legible. In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from PSA/DNA and LOA from James Spence/JSA.  Reserve $1,000. Estimate $5,000++. SOLD FOR $10,200
