1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Ossee Schreckengost

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,080

Graded FAIR 20 by SGC (submitted by REA). E107 Breisch-Williams card of Philadelphia Athletics catcher Ossee Schreckengost. Highly rated by Connie Mack as a defensive catcher and handler of pitchers, Schreckengost and Hall of Famer Rube Waddell formed a devastating duo for the early Athletics. Schreckengost despised shin guards (which were invented near the end of his career), and used a one-handed catching style over fifty years before it became an accepted technique. The image on this card is bold, with strong contrast and outstanding centering. Even wear to the corners, with light, unobtrusive wrinkling visible. The reverse is centered to the right, with moderate toning and "E107" written in pencil. An attractive and relatively affordable sample from the very desirable E107 set.  Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,080
