80% Ex to Ex-Mt and 20% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few lesser). Complete set of 1962 Salada-Junket Coins (221 players) plus forty variations for a total of 261 different coins (out of 265 in a complete master set). Missing only Williams/name right, Brandt/Orioles, Bailey/partial left, and Broussard for completion. Also included with this near-complete master set are four unchecklisted variations: Lemon/name far away and color variations for Pinson, Jay, and Freese. This is the most complete collection of Salada Coins we have ever seen or offered!

The extremely attractive 1962 Salada-Junket full-color coin set was issued one plastic-with-paper-insert coin per package with Salada Tea and Junket Pudding mix. The set features all the major stars of the era including Mantle, Mays, Clemente, Aaron, Koufax, Banks, Maris, Snider, and many more. This is a very substantial, scarce, and attractive issue, loaded with rarities, stars and Hall of Famers, which has been overlooked by collectors in recent years. Few collectors realize how difficult sets are to assemble after acquiring the initial 180-coin production run. Salada coins are also one of the more interesting choices of premiums ever devised to help generate sales of a product. We understand the issuing of these coins with desserts, but when you get right down to it, it's just hard to imagine what Salada was thinking when they also issued these with tea. Even in the early 1960s, few youngsters were drinking tea, and even those that did have an occasional cup could not possibly be expected to drink enough to actually collect this set, issued one coin per box. But this is part of the charm of the set; and the unique designs, great players, and unmistakable early 1960s flavor of the set make this issue a classic of the era. Total: 265 coins (complete set of 221 coins, forty variations, plus four unchecklisted variations).  Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,040
