1960 Fleer Baseball Greats Complete Set (79) Including 51 PSA-Graded Cards

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $600

Presented is an outstanding high-grade complete set of 1960 Fleer Baseball Greats cards. This is a tremendous set of one of card colecting's all-time great (no pun intended!) sets featuring old-timers, and was no doubt the introduction to baseball history for countless thousands of youngsters. Fifty-one of the seventy-nine cards have been encapsulated and graded by PSA. PSA Grading Composite: One MINT 9: #24 Cochrane (OC). Thirteen NM-MT 8: #10 Speaker, 13 Sisler, 20 E. Collins, 21 Maranville, 22 Medwick, 27 Appling, 32 Simmons, 46 Plank, 51 Vance, 58 Gehringer, 62 Wagner, 69 Hoyt, and 77 Traynor. Twelve NM 7: #3 Ruth, 5 Alexander, 6 Johnson, 15 Griffith, 17 Lombardi, 38 Mize, 42 Cobb, 53 Foxx (MK), 67 Jennings, 72 Williams, 75 Cuyler, and 79 Kiner. One EX-MT+ 6.5: #47 Young. Twenty EX-MT 6: #1 Lajoie, 4 Hubbell, 7 Bender, 9 Brown, 12 Wheat, 26 Feller (ST), 28 Gehrig, 33 Robinson, 34 Rice, 40 Tinker, 44 Anson, 45 Bottomley, 48 Wilson, 52 Terry, 56 Schalk, 60 Grove, 65 Heilmann, 66 McGraw, 68 Newhouser, and 76 P. Waner. Four EX 5: #8 Bresnahan, 11 Vaughan, 36 Ott, and 49 Walsh. The ungraded cards are Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt overall, with five Ex. In 1960 Fleer would have preferred to put out a set featuring current stars, but was unable to do so due to Topps' ironclad contracts with all the modern players (except Ted Williams), so Fleer came up with the idea for this old-timers set to keep its foot in the trading-card game. This is a superb complete set of this historic, classic, and often overlooked Fleer issue. The total SMR value for the individual cards is $833. Total: 79 cards.  Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
