1970 Transogram "Amazin' Mets" Unopened Box Complete Set (5) Plus Original Store Display

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,080

Extraordinary complete set of five 1970 Transogram "Amazin' Mets" unopened boxes! Issued in 1970 to commemorate the Mets' World Championship the year before, this is exactly how the Transogram statues appeared when offered in 1970! Three cards appear on the back of each of the five boxes, for a total of fifteen cards, representing the complete set. In addition, the five unopened boxes are presented here with their original store-display sign. This lot is an amazing sight! In 1970, if you were walking down the store aisle, you would have seen the unopened boxes of Transogram statues presented in the store display almost exactly as offered in this lot, with the front of each box displaying three sealed statues inside and the reverse featuring three package-design cards (intended to be cut from the box). How these remained untouched to this day is unknown. Apparently one dedicated collector had the foresight to realize what a remarkable collectible these would someday be and he kept the boxes intact and unopened. The boxes (8 x 4 x 1-1/4 inches) show light shelf wear and a few minor creases on the reverse panels. As noted, the five-box set is accompanied by the colorful (14.75 x 18 inches) advertising display sign (with photos of all the 3-panel player cards, including Hall of Famers Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver, which appear on the reverse of the boxes) which would be "slotted" into the back of the display box. This is a tremendous collection with outstanding display value. Total: 5 boxes plus store-display sign.   Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,080
