Eleven 1978 Topps Unopened Vending Boxes

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $6,000

Eleven original unopened vending boxes of 1978 Topps baseball. Each box contains approximately 500 cards, for a total of 5,500 cards. The 1978 Topps baseball set includes many Hall of Famers, including Nolan Ryan, George Brett, Robin Yount, and the rookie cards of Paul Molitor and Eddie Murray. All the other stars of the day are also included. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, it would be hard to imagine that these boxes do not include a generous supply of high-grade cards of most players in the set. Absolutely pristine condition, saved for decades by our consignor. Each box displays normal light shelf wear, but the interior cards are tightly packed and clean. These eleven high-grade unopened vending boxes in virtually perfect condition look exactly as they did when they left the Topps factory in 1978! (And, in fact, they have literally been untouched and packed away since that time! These boxes have been consigned directly by a now long-retired professional baseball photographer who provided production photos for cards decades ago, and who naturally had a great personal interest in the hobby. He put away many then-modern boxes in case they would become valuable in later years; we believed that all were sold by REA years ago, but he just found these few additional boxes in storage that were long forgotten!). Total: 11 boxes.  Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $6,000
