Pair of 1972 Topps First Series Uncut Sheets
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,400
Pair of original 1972 Topps uncut final production sheets of 132 cards each, with fully printed reverses. All cards on these sheets are from the first series (#1-132). Arranged in twelve rows of eleven cards each, both sheets feature sixty-six different double-printed cards. The first sheet is highlighted by five Hall of Famers (Fisk RC, Gibson, Killebrew, F. Robinson, and Yastrzemski) and eleven League Leaders cards. The second sheet is highlighted by seven Hall of Famers (Killebrew IA, Mays, Mays IA, Morgan, Perez, Schoendienst, and Yastrzemski IA) as well as an additional nine In Action cards. Grading of sheets has always posed a problem as we naturally tend to grade a sheet as if it were a "big card" when really a grade does not capture the condition or visual appeal of a sheet (all the more so as sheets tend to be large). That is certainly the case here. Technically, both sheets are in Good to Very Good condition due to some small creases affecting the interior cards, a few edge tears, and light staining (water staining affecting the left two columns on sheet one and light toning affecting the right two columns on sheet two). If framed and hung on a wall, both would project an overall Excellent appearance. Each sheet measures 28-3/8 x 43 inches. Total: 2 sheets. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,400
