High-Grade 1965 Topps Collection (1,150 cards) Including More Than 90 Hall of Famers!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $9,000

Presented is a tremendous high-grade collection of approximately 1,150 cards from the 1965 Topps set, highlighted by more than ninety Hall of Famers, including Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Sandy Koufax, as well as approximately 230 high-number cards. This collection has been consigned by the family of an old-time collector who kept his sets stored away safely for decades. These cards were very likely pulled directly from packs and stored away in the year of issue! When we received the cards, they were stored tightly in row boxes, from which we proceeded to build two complete sets, which were sold in past auctions and realized $16,590 and $16,800, respectively, due to their extraordinary quality! This collection represents the balance and includes heavy duplication.

One of the most popular sets of the decade, the 1965 Topps set also includes rookie cards of Hall of Famers Joe Morgan, Steve Carlton, Catfish Hunter, and Tony Perez. The low-number cards (#1-522) in this collection grade 75% Nr/Mt or better overall, with 25% technically grading lesser due to centering issues. The high-number cards (#523-598) are almost all Ex due to centering, though there are some better. We submitted twenty-four cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: Three #3 AL HR Ldrs (all Ex), 5 AL RBI Ldrs (severe miscut), two 15 Roberts (both Nr/Mt), 16 Morgan RC (NM 84), 20 Bunning (miscut, otherwise Nr/Mt), 95 Mazeroski (Nr/Mt-Mt), six 110 Santo (three Nr/Mt-Mt, two Nr/Mt, and Ex), three 120 F. Robinson (Nr/Mt+, Ex-Mt, and Ex), five 130 Kaline (one NM 84, one Nr/Mt, two Ex-Mt, and Ex), three 134 Mantle WS (two NM+ 86 and one NM 84), two 150 B. Robinson (NM/MT 88 and Nr/Mt+), four 155 Maris (NM/MT+ 92, NM/MT 88, NM+ 86, and NM 84), two 160 Clemente (both NM 84), 170 Aaron (Ex), two 176 McCovey (Nr/Mt and Ex), three 187 Stengel (two Nr/Mt and Ex+), 193 Perry (Nr/Mt-Mt), three 200 Torre (Nr/Mt-Mt, Ex-Mt, and Ex), three 205 Spahn (Nr/Mt+, Nr/Mt, and Ex-Mt), two 207 Rose (both Ex), two 217 Alston (both Nr/Mt-Mt), two 220 B. Williams (both Nr/Mt), three 250 Mays (two NM+ 86 and Ex), ten 260 Drysdale (two Nr/Mt-Mt, four Nr/Mt, three Ex-Mt, and Ex), six 276 Wilhelm (two Nr/Mt and four Ex-Mt), two 282 Murakami RC (Ex and Vg), 300 Koufax (EX/NM 80), 320 Gibson (Ex), 350 Mantle (EX/MT+ 82), five 377 Stargell (MINT 96, NM/MT 88, and three Nr/Mt), two 385 Yastrzemski (two Nr/Mt), five 400 Killebrew (NM/MT+ 92, two Nr/Mt, and two Ex-Mt), 410 Aparicio (Nr/Mt), two 477 Carlton RC (NM/MT 88 and NM 84), 485 Fox (Nr/Mt-Mt), 526 Hunter RC (Ex+), four 540 Brock (Nr/Mt and three Ex), 556 Schoendienst (Ex), and four 581 Perez RC (NM/MT 88, two NM 84, and Ex+). This is an incredible high-quality collection of cards from this popular 1960s Topps issue! The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grades for just the twenty-four graded cards (factoring in the seven half-grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $3,162. Total: approximately 1,150 cards.  Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $9,000
