1955 Exhibits PSA- and SGC-Graded Hall of Fame Collection (3) - Rare Post Card Backs!
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420
Presented are three Hall of Famers from the rare "1955 Exhibits - Post Card Back" series, each graded by PSA or SGC. These Exhibits, which resemble the cards issued as part of the 1947-1966 set, were printed in extremely limited quantities featuring post card backs and are highly sought after by advanced collectors. According to the Standard Catalog, the reason for this limited production is unknown. This collection consists of the following: Rizzuto (PSA EX 5), Roberts (SGC EX 60), and Spahn/B on Cap (PSA EX+ 5.5). Each card features the tagline "A Mutoscope Card" on the reverse (variations exist without this line). Issued by the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago over a period of twenty years, the various Exhibits sets are some of the most overlooked sets of the era and have received far less attention than they deserve, especially given their comprehensive checklists, packed with stars and Hall of Famers. Exhibit cards were traditionally sold for one penny each, from vending machines placed at arcades and amusement parks for more than four decades (from 1921 to the early 1960s). This is a very attractive trio of Hall of Famers from this very rare Post Card Back set! Total: 3 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $420
