48% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 42% Ex, and 10% lesser. Presented is an extremely attractive mid- to high-grade near-complete set of the classic 1955 Topps issue. Highlighted by the rookie card of Sandy Koufax, this near-complete set also contains many additional key star cards, including Ted Williams and Willie Mays. Ten cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA (eight submitted by REA). Keys: #1 Rhodes (Ex), 2 Williams (NM 7), 4 Kaline (VG-EX+ 4.5), 24 Newhouser (Ex), 28 Banks (EX 5), 47 Aaron (GOOD 2), 50 Robinson (Authentic, due to evidence of trimming, otherwise Nr/Mt), 100 Irvin (Ex), 120 Kluszewski (Nr/Mt), 123 Koufax RC (Authentic, due to evidence of alteration, otherwise Ex), 155 Mathews (NM 7), 187 Hodges (NM+ 7.5), 194 Mays (EX-MT 6), and 198 Berra (Ex). One common, #206 Daley, is also graded NM 7. Missing #31, 80, 81, 86, 92, 113, 117, 124, 128, 133, 134, 141, 163-165, 172, 183, 189, 196, 199, 204, 205, 207, and 210 for completion. All cards are bright and crisp, with many of the lesser-graded cards downgraded solely due to light corner wear or centering problems, which are so common with this issue. Stunning complete sets of classic issues from the 1950s such as this always generate tremendous collector interest. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value! The SMR value for just six of the graded cards (excluding the four cards graded less than EX) is $1,465. Total: 182 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,200
